• Daily Grateful: Rescued Panther Kitten

February 28, 2014 George Carlin once reviled people who were trying to save animals from extension and the planet in general by saying “the planet’s fine, it’s you who are going away…” And while I agree with George that our planet will probably be here long after we are gone, we owe it to the creatures of the planet–many of whom die off because of “development”–to try to do as much as we can to protect them. We are all creatures of the sun(s), not separate from, or somehow dominant over, those who are most vulnerable. Sermon over (for now!). 🙂 Yours

  • Daily Grateful: Man Saves Deer Trapped on Ice

February 21, 2014 “A man in Minnesota saw a Facebook post about some deer stuck on the ice in the middle of a frozen lake. The exhausted animals had been sprawled out there for a couple days, so James pretty much became a hero when he and his dad used their hovercraft vehicles to stage a rescue.” (source)

  • Daily Grateful: Fox Sounds

February 11, 2014 Here’s what happens when a grateful creature sees its caretaker: According to the post on YouTube: This is Dawn, one of the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary’s 6 resident foxes that cannot be returned to the wild. The majority of animals we get in is injured wildlife that is aimed to be returned into the wild, however, Dawn was a young fox that was took into a dog rescue centre as the member of public that found her thought she was a dog! When they realised they bought her into us but it was too late, because

  • Daily Grateful: Sewing the Seeds of Love

January 19, 2014 This quote reminds me of how compassion and giving makes the compassionate giver feel as least as good as the one on the receiving end. It also reminded me of the incredibly cool pop song by Tears for Fears–remember them? 😉 (below). Tears for Fears Sowing the Seeds of Love by Celtiemama Lyrics: High time we made a stand & shook up the views of the common man And the love train rides from coast to coast DJ’s the man we love the most Could you be, could you be squeaky clean And smash any hope of

  • Daily Grateful: A Visual and Aural Feast

January 15, 2014 First, I just wanted to say that I’m a visual person: I love graphics, I love pictures, I love movies. I see art, literally, everywhere! The Buddha you see to the right was a bronze statue at my good friend’s house (thanks, Carol!) and I had to mess around with it. (Click here to see the original.) A Visual and Aural Feast, Indeed. So when I saw some amazing pictures from a Russian photographer earlier today (below), I had to share them. They’re absolutely brilliant. I also love music, and because I think the two senses go so

  • Daily Grateful – Lion Whisperer

January 10, 2014 “The interactions have always been boisterous. I’ve learned to de-tune my reactions. No two lions are the same. Lions have dwindled to ridiculous numbers; I’m trying to raise awareness. We will not be seen lions in 20 years if we follow along the same path.” ~ Kevin Richardson Lion Whisperer with lions (and hyenas) in the wilds of southern Africa. Um, wow? If a man can insinuate himself into a pride of lions without being torn to shreds, what ELSE is possible?

  • Daily Grateful: Alaskan Husky Pup Howls for the First Time

December 22, 2013 Taking in the good is a key to rewiring your brain, and sometimes it’s just as simple as experiencing something pure and joyful. God, I love this. Creatures being creatures in the sweetest way possible. The universe can be harsh and unforgiving, but it can also be beautiful. And this is beautiful. Enjoy. • Daily Grateful: Capturing Beautiful Moments of those who Experience too Few of Them

December 16, 2013 What happens when you take 20 cancer patients whose thoughts are continuously consumed with their illness and give them a makeover? The results are very moving beautiful moments. This comes to us from the France-based mimi foundation (they accept donations, as well including PayPal). 🙂 Although I have no proof, per se, people who are chronically ill are probably being held hostage, at least in part, by the “freezing” component of the fight/flight/freeze response. The freezing part of this survival mechanism can turn ordinarily vibrant, engaged, and vibrant individuals into walking zombies when it constant stress causes

Charlie Chaplin’s “Great Dictator” Speech Whenever I get down about the state of the human condition, I think about this speech. If you haven’t seen it, you’re in for something special. If you have, watch it again, and feel that sensation of connectedness once more.  Read about the movie here. Seems especially relevant for this date in history. Full Text of the Speech I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone – if possible – Jew, Gentile – black man
